This static can cause infill materials to stick to the turf blades or clothing, and sometimes result in a small, surprising static shock when touching metal objects like a fence or gate. Annoying, but easily fixable!

What Causes Static on Artificial Grass?

The buildup of static charge is primarily due to a few factors:

Friction: Simply walking, playing, or using a power broom can rub the synthetic fibers and create a charge.
Dry Conditions: Low humidity and dry weather significantly increase the chances of static buildup.
Newly Installed Turf: New surfaces, especially with certain infill types, are often more prone to static initially.
Metal Objects: Proximity to metal fences or posts can sometimes increase the surface's static susceptibility.

Simple Solutions: The DIY Static Fix!

The quickest and easiest solution uses a product you likely have at home: Fabric Softener!

Enjoy your synthetic grass for years to come with some simple maintenance tips

Choosing the right equipment

Petrol or electric blower
Hard bristle broom or power sweeper can be used to groom the grass

Regularly move debris

Whether they're leaves, seeds, sticks or anything else that might fall from above, we recommend regularly cleaning materials off your grass. Using a brush or a rake is great because it refreshes the position of the blades at the same time, but cleaning by hand is just as good. Leaves become moist and allow moss to grow, which can impact drainage. So it's about the function as much as looking fresh.

Avoid using corrosive chemicals

Avoid using corrosive chemicals near your lawn. Most corrosive chemicals, such as harsh cleaners, need to be kept away from your lawn as they will, over time, cause damage which will be irreversible.

The sand can be washed away if installed on a slope or heavy rain conditions have be consistent. it's important the grass has 15mm of kiln dried sand to protect the backing system from strong UV rays and prevents wear and tear to the fibre.

As with anywhere around the home, it's always good to clean up any spills as quickly as you can. Most spills will wash off straightaway with a hose. Just be careful with greasy substances like cooking oil and sunscreen-they're great for a summer BBQ, but not so good for your grass.
